Palestine Handala Crewneck
Palestine Handala Crewneck
π Symbol of Resilience π
From approximately 1975 through 1987 Naji Al-Ali created cartoons that depict the complexities of the plight of Palestinian refugees. These cartoons are still relevant today and Handala, the refugee child who is present in every cartoon, remains a potent symbol of the struggle of the Palestinian people for justice and self-determination.
The word 'Handala' is derived from an Arabic term for a bitter desert plant, symbolizing the bitterness of the Palestinian experience, particularly the ongoing displacement and longing for justice and return.
The characters image has been widely used in various forms of Palestinian art and activism, embodying the unwavering hope and determination of the Palestinian cause.
